Spanglish
Western Jurisdiction Event
Spanglish is an event for young people ages 14 – 25 dedicated to the exploration and celebration of Latin Culture in the United States. Taking place in a camp setting, we fellowship through meals and gathering, learn through leadership workshops, compete in sports activities, and worship in a cross-cultural setting.
Spanglish is an event for the Western Jurisdiction of the UMC sponsored by Cal-Pac Young People and LAMAG.
Spanglish en un evento para jóvenes entre 14 – 25 años de edad dedicado a la exploración y celebración de la cultura Latina en los Estados Unidos. Tomando lugar un un campamento, convivimos a travéz de alimentos y reuniones, aprendemos a travéz de seminarios, competimos en actividades deportivas, y alabamos en un ambiente inter-cultural.
Spanglish es un evento para la Jurisdicción Oeste de la UMC patrocinado por Cal-Pac Young People y LAMAG.

SPEAKERS
Bishop Minerva G. Carcaño is a 3rd generation Methodist from Edinburg, Texas who experienced her call to ministry as a child and has faithfully lived and worked within the church ever since.
She is a graduate of the University of Texas-Pan American and Perkins School of Theology of Southern Methodist University, where she later directed the Mexican American Program, the Spanish language Course of Study School, and the Hispanic Studies Program.
Following her ordination as a United Methodist elder in 1979, she pastored congregations or served as a district superintendent in Texas, California, New Mexico, and Oregon.
She was elected bishop in 2004 and served the Phoenix Episcopal Area (Desert Southwest Conference) from 2004 to 2012. In July 2012, she was assigned to the Los Angeles Episcopal Area (California-Pacific Conference).
In addition to writing extensively, Bishop Carcaño has been a tireless preacher, teacher, and speaker at United Methodist, interfaith, justice/human rights, and immigration reform events all over the U.S., Brazil, Argentina, Cuba, Mexico, Zimbabwe, and Switzerland. Her work has received numerous recognitions from a variety of groups and organizations.
She is married to Thomas L. Spaniolo, a lawyer specializing in immigration and criminal law. They have a daughter, Sofia T. Spaniolo-Carcaño, who is a student at Columbia College in Chicago, Illinois.
MUSIC
Eduardo Belmont is a Tae-Kwon-Do and Music instructor who’s been shaping young people’s lives for many years. He studies music and art in the Instituto Estatal de Bellas Artes in the city of Mexicali, BC, Mexico, the city where he was born. He also graduated from the Mexican Army and Air Force University and from the Bible Institute of Tijuana, Mexico. He currently serves as the Associate Pastor for Worship at the “All People’s Church” in Lynwood, CA. He is also Worship Leader at BIOLA University in La Mirada, CA. He serves as Director for the V.E.S. Center where he develops a Music and Tae-Kwon-Do program. Eduardo has traveled and ministered in Mexico, USA, Cuba, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.

DEADLINE Monday March 25, 2013
$40 late fee will be applied to registrations received after March 25th, pending availability.
Registration fees include food, lodging, t-shirt, and program materials.
All youth must be accompanied by a chaperone from their church. Chaperones must be 26 years old and have a background check completed at their local church. Churches need to send at least one chaperone per 7 youth attending Spanglish, preferably one male and one female minimum.
Cancelation Policy: Cancellations will not be refunded after the final registration deadline. Substitutions can be made with the same gender & rooming assignment. Please contact Erin Foellmi 626-568-7360 to discuss cancellations or substitutions.
